Andrea Phillips Massage Therapist (Remedial Massage) & ka huna Therapist
We’re proud to include Andrea as one of our original founding therapists at Niggles & Knots – she’s been offering amazing healing treatments to our clients for as long as we’ve been in existence! So we sat down and had a chat with her, and then we thought we had to share it with you so you can start to appreciate how wonderful she is as a therapist and a person too….
What inspired you to become a Remedial Massage therapist?
I’d been working in health care for 10 years in the UK, starting as a dietitian While I am still very passionate about the benefits of good nutrition, when my husband and I moved to Australia I decided I want to make a difference to people’s health in a more “hands on” way. I love keeping active, taking care of my body, watching my husband compete in triathlons and travel, so all these things seemed to make a career change even more appealing. So, in 2012 I completed my Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy and joined the Australian Association of Massage Therapists, and I haven’t looked back since!
How did you meet Cecilia?
Cecilia was one of my teachers at Q Academy College of Massage. On my first day in her class we discovered we had something in common – our love of all things Hawaii. Actually one of our first conversations started with me talking about how I would love to become a Ka Huna practitioner once I had qualified as a Remedial Therapist. Cecilia had been practicing Ka Huna for many years, so we hit it off straight away, and the rest, as they say, is history.
What do you love most about Remedial Massage Therapy?
I saw a post on Facebook that sums up what I enjoy most about being a therapist…
“People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you make them feel”
How I interpret this for my clients is by recommending a combination of a variety of massage techniques with good nutrition, activities that suit your lifestyle, and specific stretches and strengthening exercises where necessary. I truly believe that there is a path for you to even better health – your body can function at its best and you can feel great, no matter who you are, how old you are or what your story is. And I’m passionate about helping you find that path.
What else should we know about you?
I am a mum to a 4 year old boy who is just as active as his mum and dad. I love spending time with friends and family. I think South East Queensland is a beautiful place to live with so much to see and do. I am originally a POM. My favorite gym classes are Body Balance & Pilates. I have been practicing Reiki energy work for several years and am happy to provide these sessions as a complement or alternative to remedial massage at Niggles & Knots.
