Merryn Harpley Massage Therapist (Remedial Massage) & Musculoskeletal Therapist
Helping people with her hands has always been second nature to Merryn, who used to intuitively massage friends and family as she was growing up. Having sustained injuries as a teenager herself, she was exposed to physiotherapists and chiropractors from a young age, thus developing an intense interest in the science of the body and the musculoskeletal system and the desire to learn how to help others with pain and dysfunction.
Merryn studied a Diploma of Remedial Massage and then enrolled in the pioneer class of The Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Therapy course at the Australian College of Natural Medicine. She graduated Remedial massage in 2005 and Musculoskeletal Therapy in 2007 and was awarded the most outstanding student of this program!
A firm believer in the holistic approach to healthcare and preventative medicine, Merryn enjoys providing the utmost care to her clients and is outstanding at assessing and treating various conditions; ranging from sporting injuries to chronic pain, overuse injuries and postural issues. Merryn uses a range of techniques, including: postural assessment and orthopaedic testing, soft tissue alignment, massage, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, lymphatic drainage, stretching and muscle energy technique, joint mobilisation, cupping therapy and dry needle therapy. Her caring and supportive approach to her clients sets her apart in providing the optimal healing environment.
With eight years experience working in Remedial Therapies Merryn is passionate about developing and fine tuning her technique with postgraduate training to provide up to date effective treatments. She also enjoys sharing knowledge and inspiration through contract lecturing work at Endeavour College of Natural Health in Fortitude Valley. “I have Fibromyalgia along with a few health and stress issues. I met Cecelia at a friends wedding. I was impressed with her knowledge and understanding of Fibromyalgia and I made a booking. Merryn is my practitioner as Cecelia felt that she would be good therapist for me. Two visits and I have hips that stay in place and don’t give out. Shoulders that are settling into their correct position. I still have bursitis but the pain level has decreased significantly. After my treatment today I am tired and stiff and quite sore with tender points. Anyone with Fibromyalgia will tell you this is very normal after massage, even gentle relaxation. But my body feels overall better and I know by Friday I’ll be over it and the benefits will be fantastic. Try Niggles and Knots in Ashgrove, you won’t be disappointed.”
